CHRIS ARGO
The past 5 years of my life have been incredible; full of memories and unbelievable adventures. I was fortunate to obtain my wings back in Canada in 2003 and to follow my heart and set off for Africa in search of a unique and exciting flying experience. Fate brought me to Malawi in 2004 and allowed me to begin working for a small charter operator in the north of the country. From the moment I first fired up the Lycoming and set off low level over the rolling green pastures of the Nyika escarpment, I was hooked.
It began as a challenge to myself - I wanted to capture the beauty of the country from the air; I wanted to remember Malawi as I alone saw it. There were only 7 of us flying in this tiny landlocked country; 7 pilots in a country with a poplulation of 12 million. I had a unique privilege to call my Cessna 206 and the skies over Lake Nyasa home and as my second passion was photography, it made perfect sense to point my lens into the air stream and to start firing away.
I have subsequently shot aerials in Namibia, Angola, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan and England. I have collected several hundred unique images that each tell a story of life on the ground. The images have followed me around like a diary, a journal of my 5 years living on the outskirts of civilization and working in the various industries where aviation is so essential.
