the first thing that struck me about sudan is the scale of the desolation. for miles, in every direction along the horizon, long straight lines and not a single ridge or a bump.

i couldn't imagine a more difficult existence than the one i saw each day from the window of my c212.

yet in spite of the poverty and hardship, i saw a country unlike any other. i saw a nation facing turbulent times and everyday people trying to survive the future.
